NEWS STORIES OF Shooting in Minneapolis, MN:

Take Action on H.R. 8 - the Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2019

H.R. 8, the Bipartisan Background Checks Act would require background checks for the purchase of firearms, in the case of private sales, including gun shows and online transactions. Under current federal law, only transactions with licensed gun dealers require a background check. Passing H.R. 8 would close this gaping loophole.

  1. Call your Senators and ask them to cosponsor S. 42 and/or support H.R. 8 if it comes to the floor. You can find your Senators here!

  2. Call (202) 224-3121 and ask to be connected to Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to demand that he gives HR 8 a vote in the Senate.

Urge CNN to take responsibility for its story about the mass shooting in Fresno, CA

After the community response from CNN’s initial headlines, the news outlet changed the title at least twice. While the community was happy to have been heard, we believe CNN must publicly acknowledge this mistake, as is customary in journalism. Community organizations have already sent a letter to CNN demanding they take responsibility. Join them in the push to have CNN respond to community demands for:

1. An explanation for how the headline and article were approved.

2. As is customary for changes to articles, the addition of a correction note, or an addendum to the article explaining why the title was changed twice and why the headline was changed.

3. A follow-up feature on Hmong Americans in Fresno.

4. Diversity training for reporters and editors involved with the article’s publication.
